FLORIDA STATE WINNIE GATORS
January 2010 Outing
January 15 – 17, 2010 were the dates for the Florida State Winnie Gators to convene once again! 52 coaches traveled to Lee Civic Center in Fort Myers, Florida for a fun packed weekend! The events kicked off with the majority of the coaches arriving early and everyone shared in Happy Hour on Thursday outside the officers coaches because the weather was warm and sunny for a change! Several groups went out to enjoy the local restaurants for dinner and some played games in the Expo Hall that evening.
The Executive and Board of Directors meetings were held on Friday with most of the discussion being centered around the details of our annual rally in March. Happy Hour began before 4:00pm with the appearance of the “Raffle Babes” from South Florida Winnie Gators – Damaris Travers, Pat & Butch Crosby. Their “costumes” added so much to the fun and as usual Damaris danced on the tables to sell a few more tickets! Everyone had a super time and the profits of the raffle will help with GNR Row Party expenses coming up next July. Dinner was served by Rainbow Caterers, and Bingo Games were the activity of the evening.
Members Darwin & Judy Michielsen from Suncoast Winnies showed of their brand new coach – a Journey – they just picked up a few days earlier! They gave tours to those of us waiting in line to get a peek! Congratulations, Darwin & Judy!
Saturday morning dawned bright and sunny, breakfast was served by Rainbow, followed by our General Business Meeting. Again, the discussion included the rally plans which are well underway. The slate of officers for 2010 was presented by Director Linda Tuzzolo. Those on the slate were Nancy Miller, President; Joe & Ann Loudenslager, 1st Vice Presidents; Ted & Janis Fumia, 2nd Vice Presidents; Kathryn Griffin, Secretary; Jerry Miller, Treasurer. Voting was unanimous to accept the slate. Installation of these officers will be held at the March Rally. The “Long Haul Awards” for the furthest distance in state traveled to the meeting was presented to the members of the DuBol Winnies from northeast Florida. The out of state award was presented to Bob & Nancy Watson, from the state of Maine! The rest of the day our members and guests enjoyed local attractions, and of course a trip to Walmart and Camping World!
Happy Hour at 4:00pm brought the group back together for a 50/50 raffle, good snacks and beverages. Dinner was served at 6:00pm. There was an outbreak of flying paper airplanes around the room with the participants having a great time seeing who could fly the farthest! At 7:00pm a musical group, “LeDeux” played great music for listening and dancing which everyone enjoyed!
Sunday morning continental breakfast was served including donuts, bagels, rolls, and the usual beverages. Soon it was time to go our separate ways. It was such a great weekend to renew our friendships and get to know people better, make new friends and have GREAT fun!
